Son of Sardaar movie is a remake of a Telugu movie Maryada Ramanna.
Son of Sardaar, also known by the abbreviated form
SOS, is an upcoming Bollywood romance drama film directed by Ashwni
Dhir a remake Telugu movie Maryada Ramanna directed by S. S. Rajamouli,
which in itself is a remake of the 1923 American silent movie Our
Hospitality starring Buster Keaton and Natalie Talmadge. The film
features Ajay Devgn, Juhi Chawla, Sanjay Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha in the
lead roles. Longtime associate and Ace cinematographer Aseem Bajaj is
handling the camera once again for Dhir. The film is scheduled for
release on 13 November 2012; hence competing against Yash Chopra's
Untitled Project. Recently Himesh Reshammiya was roped in to compose the
music along with the famous lyricist Sameer Anjaan.

Earler, reports suggested that actress Sonam Kapoor was chosen
as the female lead of the film, although she dropped out and was later
replaced by actress Sonakshi Sinha. The trailer is out, Ajay Devgn's SON

Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha starrer Son of Sardar's much-awaited trailer is finally out. The first theatrical trailer of Son of Sardar that blends mad-cap hilarity with colorful romance, got released last night.Son of Sardar is an adventure comedy, portrays Ajay Devgn as a sikh and Sonakshi Sinha as his ladylove. The film is a masala entertainer that also features Sanjay Dutt and Juhi Chawla. This is the first time Ajay and Sonakshi are pairing up as a couple, but the duos' chemistry just looks awesome in the trailer.
Son Of Sardar, set in Punjab, is a remake of Telugu hit, Maryada Ramanna (2010). The movie is scheduled for release on 13 November 2012. It will be directed by Ashwni Dhir. The film is produced by Ajay Devgn Ffilms, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and YRV Infra & Media (P) Ltd.
Son of Sardaar not an over the top comedy: Ashwni Dhir
Forthcoming comedy Son Of Sardaar might be about Punjabis, but it is
devoid of any "slapstick humour" and doesn't focus on any particular
religion, claims director Ashwni Dhir.
Co-produced by Ajay Devgn, who also stars in the film, the cast has names like Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Juhi Chawla.
"Ajay Devgn is not an over the top actor. We have good Punjabi humour in the film. It is all about the dialogues and it is not a slapstick comedy. It is large than life but not over the top," Dhir told IANS.
SOS is a remake of Telugu movie Maryada Ramanna and Dhir said that except the plot, the rest has been changed.
It is coming out Nov 13 and Dhir said: "The zone is completely different in both the films. Only plots are same, otherwise both the films are completely different. Son Of Sardaar is a complete entertainment package. It is a Diwali film completely. It has a combination of everything from comedy to romance to action."
A complaint has been filed in a court against Ajay for allegedly maligning and defaming Sikhs in SOS but Dhir clarified saying although the film revolves around Sikhs, it is not about Sikh religion.
"The film is not based on Sikh religion. It could have been a Parsi, a Gujarati or a Muslim... The film is about Punjabi environment. Since Punjabis are larger than life, so is the film," he said.
SOS is Dhir's third directorial venture after One Two Three and Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? His aim is to make films that entertain people.
"We try to make different kind of films, which must entertain people. People want to laugh while watching a comedy. Son Of Sardaar is about Punjabi values but it is entertaining at the same time," he said.
If the response to SOS is satisfactory, they might turn it into a series, says Dhir.
"If it is a hit, then we might make it again as a series. It all depends on how the film does at the box office. We will talk after the film is a hit," he said.

Sardar didn’t smoke with his pagdi on
Actor-producer Ajay Devgn is doubly sure about the success of his
production, Son Of Sardar, which is releasing this Diwali, even though
the film is pitched against Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
“Diwali is a time when two films can easily fit in. Also, the film is
superb and we are
confident about it,” Devgn says and reveals how he had to
resist his urge to smoke during the shoot, “I did not smoke while my

Shah Rukh Khan`s `Jab Tak Hai Jaan`, is confident about his film doing
well."We are confident about it from beginning. It is an entertaining film. It is a superb film. The pace and the way he(director) has made the film is fabulous... so have confidence," Ajay told reporters here.
